Welcome to Elite
II Hockey
Thank you for your interest in the Elite II High School Hockey
League. Elite II is cooperatively sponsored by the Minnesota Hockey
Coaches Association, the Herb Brooks Foundation, and Minnesota Hockey
with the support of USA Hockey. This will be the 5th year of the
league’s existence. For those of you who do not know about the Elite II
Fall Hockey League, the league was designed to give players an
opportunity to develop their skills by playing a highly competitive, 20
game schedule in preparation for the high school hockey season. The
State High School Hockey Coaches’ Association wanted to give the
underclassmen the same great opportunity that the Upper Midwest Elite
Hockey League has given the older players. Although the Elite II League
has no affiliation with the Upper Midwest Elite Hockey League, we do
have the same goals of developing great hockey players and keeping our
state’s best high school hockey players in high school. Even though the
Elite II League is designed for players that are not seniors, each team
will be allowed to have a maximum of 4 senior skaters and 1 goalie
playing each weekend. The league has been a tremendous success in its
first four seasons allowing players to play with and against some of the
best players in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Elite II was designed around the competitive sections designed by the
Minnesota State High School League. Some changes will be allowed because
of geographical inconsistencies between the “A” and “AA” sections. The
tryouts schedule for the teams is included in this mailing. The cost of
tryouts will be $45 for the tryout fee plus $40 for the 2008-09 USA
Hockey fee. If you have any questions about tryouts, please contact me.
If you are interested in trying out for the league, please fill out the
enclosed 2007 Tryout Registration Form to confirm that we should include
you on the tryout list. Do not be concerned if your goals are to make
the Upper Midwest Elite League. If you end up playing in the Upper
Midwest Elite League, we will just delete you from our tryout list.
For those that make the teams, the league will begin its games on the
weekend of September 6th–7th. Each team will play a minimum of two games
per weekend for eight weeks. Games are held on Saturdays and Sundays so
that all fall sport athletes have an opportunity to play in the league.
They will be hosted at different sites around the state depending upon
the sections that you are playing utilizing the Schwan’s Super Rink as
the home facility for the games played in the metropolitan area. The
cost of playing in the league is $575. That cost includes jerseys and
socks, any practice times, all conference and non-conference games, and
playoff tournament. The 12-team league will also include a team from
North Dakota, Wisconsin, and Shattuck-St. Mary’s. It will conclude with
a 12-team playoff tournament at the end of the season.
